Year-round calendar offered

Spalding Elementary is a year round school that consists of five tracks running on different calendars throughout the year.  This year at Spalding, three out of the five tracks have become part of a math and technology magnet.  There are 742 students that are enrolled this year.  Spalding also consists of a preschool program and challenge center.

Also at Spalding this year is a new audio/video lab where students can produce the announcements/news.  Each day, Spalding students anchor the news which is broadcast to each classroom.  Students have fun writing news stories, being filmed doing the news and reporting on a variety of topics.

Spalding also received a Micron Foundation Grant that will allow Spalding teachers to be trained on a new math instructional focus called DMT, Developing Mathematical Thinking.  This grant is for $45,000 each year for three years.  Teachers have implemented this process in their classrooms and continue to focus on introducing students to new strategies on how to solve math problems.

Spalding received a Meridian Education Foundation Grant which provided funding for the school to set up a math lab.  This has provided students with additional practice with manipulatives to help each child understand mathematics more efficiently.  This year, Spalding was a recipient for another Meridian Education Foundation Grant that will allow more Interwrite Tablets to be used throughout the school.  This new piece of technology will allow more interaction to take place between the teacher, student and curriculum.

Spalding is a school that continues to provide an enriched program that is innovative and makes learning fun!
