School Name

Our school is named after the famous Nez Perce Chief Hin-mut-too-yah-lat-kekht 'Thunder Rolling In the Mountains' renamed Joseph. Ordered to live on a reservation, Chief Joseph led his courageous band of Nez Perce against the advancing Seventh Cavalry, surrendering just 40 miles from safe haven in Canada.

Chief Joseph's surrender speech concludes with the well known quote: "Hear me my chiefs! I am tired; my heart is sick and sad. From where the sun now stands I will fight no more forever."

Chief Joseph is remembered for his efforts to keep peace, his diplomacy, and his integrity of character.

"It does not require many words to speak the truth." Chief Joseph, Nez Perce
