Erin Hull
School Counselor
Erin is a full time staff member at Paramount, and has been here since it opened in 2007. Before getting her Masters of Arts in School Counseling from BSU, she taught high school English for eight years. She grew up in northern Idaho and attended the University of Idaho (Go Vandals!) for her Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Education. She works with all the children at Paramount, preparing them to succeed in school by building their social and emotional smarts (She likes to call it being "heart smart"). Becoming heart smart is the process of helping students develop the skills to manage their emotions, resolve conflict nonviolently, and make responsible decisions. Research shows that promoting social and emotional skills leads to reduced violence and aggression among children, higher academic achievement, and an improved ability to function in schools and in the workplace. She goes into every classroom to teach lessons on violence prevention, bully prevention, and/or personal safety. She also provides small group counseling based on the needs of our students. Groups She has conducted in the past include: dealing with divorce, changing families, impulse control, friendship skills, children of alcoholics, and anger management. Small group times are arranged with staff for minimal class interruption. She typically meets seven or eight times with groups. She also provides individual short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and problem-solving skills.
‘No one has yet realized the wealth of sympathy, the kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of a child. The effort of every true education should be to unlock that treasure.’ – Emma Goldman.
